This week we have seen the demonstration of the importance of press releases when for the first time Fano commanders released a joint statement for the press which included Ethio251, ABC among other outlets.

The commanders headed by Mire Wodajo took turns to address different aspects of the struggle and other concerns that have been raised by both the Amhara people within the confines of the Amhara region and the wider support base worldwide.
This is significant because up until this point the Amhara struggle has been marred with internal divisions and lack of cohesion, without mentioning the lack of a centralised power structure which, as we will explore in future articles, may not be necessarily a disadvantage.
The PR exercise was concise and contained powerful remarks and even orders to be heeded by all involved in the popular struggle. Let’s now take a look at the most important points made during this press release;
Mire Wodajo to serve as head of the Amhara Popular Front’s council
Abebe Fentaw to serve as Vice President and Communications rep
Getachew Beyene to serve as head of the International Amhara movement
In addition to the revelation of this organisational structure the commanders also laid out a code of conduct for Fano combatants which includes;
The banning of mistreatment of POW and other captured individuals
Instructions for what to do with POW and other captured individuals
Clarification of relevant lines of communications for combatants
They have also encouraged potential leaders of thought, professionals and tradesmen with useful assets for the Amhara struggle to get involved in the struggle but also thanked those already involved for their invaluable input and support.
Last but not least the commanders have also confirmed that they are not willing to negotiate with the regime and that they seek a transitional all inclusive regime to be established in the country.
